The new star of the left might, with her madness and aggressiveness, outshine Greta Thunberg. Her name is Irene Montero, she is a Member of the European Parliament from Spain, where she served as Minister of Equality until 2023. She had already appeared in international media before, accusing men of “sexual assault” on women due to a public kiss and for her fight for transgender rights, but this time she truly made headlines with a speech in the EU Parliament in which she accused Israel and the United States of being “the greatest threats to humanity.” She also attacked the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for supporting Israel in the recent twelve-day war with Iran.
Leftists in the West, who despise the USA, Israel, and the West in general, and who admire Islamist religious dictatorships (the kind they would gladly impose on us in Europe), usually love to moralize to others while being morally questionable individuals themselves. Such is the case with our Irene Montero.
Two years ago, while she was still a minister in the Spanish government, Montero was convicted in a Spanish court for making false accusations. She accused a man of being abusive and violent without any basis. The court ruled she had to pay him €18,000 in damages, which she refused to do and appealed all the way to the Constitutional Court, which rejected her appeal.
In 2019, María Sevilla, the former head of an organization that supports mothers who are victims of violence, abducted her son and went with him to a rural area where the child had no access to schooling or contact with his father. When she was caught, she was charged and found guilty, but the court reduced her sentence so she didn’t have to serve time in prison. Two years ago, Montero referred to this case in a public speech at the opening of the Women’s Institute. On that occasion, she stated that the mother was a victim of public opinion because “protective mothers suffer injustice” and “in many cases are condemned by society when they only want to protect themselves and their children from abusers.”
She herself posted and spread that speech on social media. Soon after, she was sued. Rafael Marcos, the ex-husband of the mother who abducted his child, demanded a public apology or compensation of €18,000 for defamation because, as he said, it was never proven or established in any way that he had abused his wife or child. The minister refused to apologize publicly and opted to fight a legal battle, which she pursued to the highest level—and ultimately lost.
This is just one episode in a long list of examples of hypocrisy on the pro-Palestinian left. These people are usually not moral authorities—in fact, they are often quite problematic—but they love to moralize to everyone around them. This woman in particular is already a professional at making false accusations against innocent people. She cannot distinguish good from evil, real threats from genuine help. Why is it not the same whether the USA or Iran has nuclear weapons capable of wiping entire nations off the map? Because one country is governed by people accountable to their citizens, while the other is governed by people to whom their citizens are accountable.
It’s even more interesting when people who claim the mantle of equality so fiercely support the survival of an Islamist religious dictatorship where women are not allowed to drive a car or have their own bank account. Are we supposed to trust a nation with such values when they say their fanatics in power won’t use nuclear weapons against others? But the USA and Israel are the bad guys, they’re the danger—if you think that way, congratulations, you deserve a one-way ticket to Palestine or Iran.
